MC Tagwaye's Bold Political Move

Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, recently took such a step by resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP). This decision, according to him, was driven by his unwavering commitment to the progress and welfare of the Nigerian people.


For months, MC Tagwaye engaged in deep consultations and introspection, evaluating the direction of his political journey. His conclusion was clear: the APC had deviated from its founding ideals and was no longer a platform that aligned with his vision for Nigeria. He cited a lack of a proper reward system for loyal members, an aging leadership structure that suppresses young voices, and policies that continue to place financial burdens on low-income earners. In his words, these issues collectively marked the end of his association with the party.


A major concern for MC Tagwaye was the lack of internal democracy within the APC. Power, he noted, is concentrated in the hands of a select few who dictate the party's course without regard for the aspirations of the majority. This undemocratic practice has made it increasingly difficult for young, visionary leaders to thrive within the party’s structure.


In contrast, the SDP has positioned itself as a party with clear principles rooted in youth empowerment, transparency, and accountability. MC Tagwaye believes that the SDP embodies the future Nigeria needs, with a progressive agenda focused on improving the lives of all citizens. The party’s commitment to fair leadership, justice, and inclusivity resonated with his personal and political aspirations.


With this new chapter, MC Tagwaye is determined to play an active role in shaping a better Nigeria. His call to action is clear: he urges Nigerians who share his vision to join the movement for change. According to him, the SDP represents the best chance for the country to break free from outdated leadership models and create a system that truly serves the people.


On March 14, 2025, he formally submitted his resignation to his APC ward chairman, thereby severing ties with the party. Now, as a member of the SDP, he is ready to work towards a new political order that prioritizes the collective good over the ambitions of a few individuals.


His bold move is a reflection of the growing frustration among many Nigerians who seek change but feel hindered by traditional party structures. It serves as a wake-up call for political parties to embrace inclusivity and prioritize the needs of the people they claim to serve.
